The Disloyal Canadians is the very first cartoon in the series, Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties. It originally aired as a segment in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends (Season 1, Episode 11).
Plot[]
Snidely Whiplash has been smuggling furs across the U.S.-Canadian border with the aid of his musical band, "The Disloyal Canadians". The musicians are tone deaf, but what makes them even worse is that their instruments are filled with stolen furs.
In order to expose Whiplash’s plot, Inspector Fenwick orders Dudley Do-Right to join Whiplash’s band. To get Whiplash to trust Do-Right, Dudley must get thrown out of the Mounties for doing a disgraceful act. Dudley unfortunately fails to disgrace himself, until he eats his peas with a knife, something that no Mounty would ever do, and he was subsequently drummed out with a dishonorable discharge.
Dudley, with his Alpine Horn, subsequently joins Whiplash’s band, and when the tuba player begins blowing furs out of his instrument, Dudley attempts to arrest them. Unfortunately, when he tells the tuba player to drop his tuba, he does...right on Dudley. Whiplash leaves Dudley tied up, with a bomb at his feet, and tries to cross the border, only to be confronted by Dudley in his uniform. It seems that the tied up Do-Right was actually Dudley’s horse, in a Dudley suit.
While being congratulated for bringing Snidely Whiplash in, Dudley and Inspector Fenwick are surprised to see that Snidely has actually escaped. The Inspector asks Dudley if he has his knife on him, because he is going to have to do it all over again.

Trivia[]
- This episodes explains Dudley’s love for Nell, and Nell’s love for his horse.
- The title card introducing Snidely Whiplash states that he was played by Sid Gould XVIII. Sid Gould (1912-1996) was an American actor, and he was repeatedly listed as playing parts in these cartoons. In this episode, Dudley was listed as being played by Sid Gould, Jr., Nell by Sid Gould's wife., and Inspector Fenwick by Sid Gould's Mother-in-Law.
- Snidely's band, "Guy Whiplash and his Disloyal Canadians," is a parody of the then famous band, "Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians."
- In the nineteenth century, it was considered a serious faux pas to eat with your knife, rather than just cutting with it. The social stigmatization of this habit seems to have worked as the habit has fallen far out of favor.
- This is one of only two episodes in which Dudley brandishes a pistol, but in neither does he fire it. Marvel Comics made a 1988 version of Rocky & Bullwinkle, which also included Dudley. In the comics, Dudley was see firing his pistol as well as sometimes using it to corner a suspect when making an arrest.
- During the scene where Dudley inadvertently gets a medal for burning down the Alberta Hotel, the Manitoba flag can be seen at the start, which would most likely be the setting for the series.
