Inspector Nathaniel Fenwick (voiced by Paul Frees) is the head of the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) camp, home of Constable Dudley Do-Right, and father of Dudley's on-again off-again love interest, Nell Fenwick. He is also extremely allergic to crabgrass.

Inspector Fenwick's role in Dudley's misadventures is getting Dudley to bring in Snidley Whiplash, the most wanted man in Canada, first caught the case of a fur smuggling ring (Season 1, the Disloyal Canadians) and assigned Dudley to it, going so far as to fake Dudley's dishonorable discharge to join up with Snidely and smash the ring from the inside, it worked, but in a comedic twist, Snidley gets away by saying that he had a doppelganger in his place. Fenwick's feelings toward Do-Right vary from day to day, he either has complete faith in him or has total indifference to his well being.

Fenwick is a rather short man, bushy eyebrows and mustache with a proper English dialect. If he's not trying to find a way to bring Snidely in, he's trying to discourage Nelle's independence and outshining the Mounties at bringing Whiplash in. Fenwick's superior officer is Col. Ogden Crimcrammer, who Snidely masqueraded as, with Fenwick not noticing the difference or objecting to the "new regulation" of replacing real horses with rocking toy horses.

"You've changed, Colonel! Last year you were six foot three."

All and all, Fenwick is a source of Comedy turn and running gags.

Trivia[]

  • One view of Inspector Fenwick's office shows a school pennant for "Sandhurst 88." Sandhurst is the Royal Military College, located in Sandhurst, Berkshire, England. It is the British equivalent of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Therefore, it is logical to assume that he was commissioned as an officer in the British Royal Army.
